This striking Chinese Shiwan pottery vase dates to the mid-20th century and features a beautifully modelled relief of a bird perched on a lotus stem with bud and leaf.
Standing approximately 33cm tall, the vase is finished in a rich, flowing cobalt and sapphire blue glaze, contrasted by soft jade and celadon greens to the lotus stem and leaf, with delicate blush pink and creamy white tones highlighting the lotus bud. The bird is rendered in gentle turquoise and green hues with fine detailing to the beak and feet, adding charm and movement to the composition.
Crafted in glazed earthenware and marked to the base, this piece reflects the Shiwan tradition of expressive naturalistic forms and vibrant glazes, making it both a decorative object and a collectible example of post-war Chinese pottery.
