An ancient Greek South Italian pyxis, or ‘jewellery box’, the domed cover painted with two profile portraits of ‘ladies of fashion’, divided by panels of palmettes, the base plain.

Apulian, 4th century BC.

10cm high x 11cm wide.

Condition: Broken into several large shards and re-assembled, minimal infill.

Provenance: from an Old Melbourne Collection.
