to 26 August 2025

Frederick and Elisabeth Koch immigrated to Australia from Germany in 1958 and settled in the Blue Mountains with their two daughters. An engineer, Frederick had a particular love of Asian ceramics, studying each piece he acquired. He started collecting on his arrival in Australia, purchasing most pieces from auction houses and dealers in Sydney during the 1960s and 1970s.

Among the selection in The Koch Collection of Asian Antiquities are stunning Chinese and Japanese porcelain bowls and vases, including Satsuma and Imari ware. Also on offer are lacquerware, ink drawings, woodblocks, figurines, beads and decorative objects.

Auction highlights include a Japanese Satsuma floral vase from the Meiji period, a Qing Dynasty Chinese Lacquer ‘Scholar in Landscape’ Circular Box, and a 19th century woodblock triptych by Utagawa Sadahide titled ‘Pillar of Fire’ Battle of Rokuhara in the Taiheik.
