Colonial era gentleman’s percussion pistol

$1,250

A large bore, single shot, man stopper, percussion pistol marked Blake & Co, made around 1850.

The .57 calibre, smoothbore, octagonal barrel measures 4 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring just under 9 ½ inches. The bore is in very good condition and London proofs appear on the barrel and breach.

The box lock, tang and trigger guard have clear foliate engravings. The frame is also clearly engraved with ‘BLACK & Co’ and ‘LONDON’. The action is in good working order. An old state based registration number of ‘Z031B’ in stamped on the barrel.

The finely chequered, bag shaped, walnut grip with vacant, white metal echelon is in good condition but does show signs of wear.

Any colonial gentleman would feel confident walking amidst the riff raff of the day with one of these in his coat pocket!
