The warm and welcoming lobby at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay

Sir Stamford at Circular Quay Decommissioning Auction

1 October 2025

to 2 October 2025

For more than a century, Sir Stamford at Circular Quay has stood as one of Sydney’s most elegant landmarks. Originally built in the 1800s, the hotel became known for its olde world charm, refined hospitality, and timeless atmosphere, welcoming guests from across the globe to experience a retreat unlike any other.

On 30 September 2025, this remarkable chapter will come to a close, as Sir Stamford at Circular Quay shuts its doors for the very last time. More than the end of a hotel, it is the farewell of an icon that has been woven into the city’s cultural and social fabric.

To mark this moment, the majority of contents of Sir Stamford at Circular Quay will be offered at auction. Including fine antique and reproduction furniture, exquisite paintings and prints, marble fireplaces, three Steinway pianos, fine oriental carpets and impressive chandeliers and light fittings.

Guests, collectors and admirers will have the rare opportunity to bring home a part of Sir Stamford, keeping its spirit alive beyond its walls.

Though the doors will close, the legacy of Sir Stamford at Circular Quay will endure – in memories, in history, and in the treasured pieces that find new homes.
