Half stocked Spanish miquelet travelling pistol

$5,500

A fine, half stocked, Spanish miquelet pistol antique firearm from around 1800.

The .66 caliber, octagonal to round, smoothbore, cannon barrel measures 7 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 12 ½ inches. The barrel features a chiselled centre band with gold highlights. The breech has silver inlayed features and gold washed barrel maker’s mark and decorations.

The tail of the lock has an engraved flower and the cock has finely chiselled features. The lock is in good working order.

The iron furniture, including the engraved trigger guard bow with a gold washed mark, is in good condition. Both the pommel and rammer entry have border engraving.

The half walnut stock is in a good used condition with some wear evident on the chequered bird head grip. The belt hook appears original to the pistol. The rammer may be a period replacement. The half stock form with bird’s head grip started gathering popularity from the late 18th century.

Overall a solid example of the Spanish gun maker’s art.
