Jewellery box, European with silver mounts

$1,495

This fine quality jewellery box is a wonderful display of craftmanship and intricate detail from the 19th century.

Featuring turned bobbin style carvings to the legs and supports, and gadrooning to the edges of the box, this piece likely hails from Spain or Portugal. It further showcases highly decorative silver mounts to the faux drawers, corners, and top of the raised jewellery box, and this silver detailing extends to the small flanking corbels. “Joias” is inscribed on the central mount meaning “jewels”.

The box opens to reveal a fully fitted interior lined with a striking aqua silk and an upper oval shaped mirror.

A tiny piece of the silver mount is missing from the central motif but this does not detract, and is consistent with age of c.1880.

14cm high x 24cm wide x 14.5cm deep.
