Original mid century Tretchikoff print, Chinese Girl.
In 1952 Vladimir Tretchikoff painted Chinese Girl, featuring exotically dressed Eastern model Monika Pon-su-san with bluish-green skin. The painter had seen her in the Chinese laundry where she worked and invited her to model for him; he painted her twice a week for more than a month.
Chinese Girl became one of the best-selling prints of the 20th century. It has hung in millions of homes and was featured in various plays and television programmes, including Hitchcock’s 1972 Frenzy and several episodes of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
