Pristine 1842 model Swiss cavalry percussion pistol

A most pristine example of an 1842 model Swiss cavalry, percussion pistol made by the well-known Belgian gunmaker, Beuret Freres of Liege. Freres was registered at the Liege proof house as a gunmaker from 1836 to 1879.

The .70 calibre, octagonal breech, round, smoothbore barrel measures 8 inches with the whole pistol measuring 14 inches.

The barrel has three Crowned ‘B.F’ marks for Beuret Freres manufacture as well as serial number of 274 and ‘ZHS ZURICH’ on the top flat.

The flat lock-plate with rounded tail is also stamped with the Crowned ‘B.F’. The action is in excellent working order. The Beuret Freres stamp is also on most other components of the pistol.

The regulation, iron and brass furniture, including the lanyard ring on the skull crusher butt cap, is in very good condition.

The walnut stock is in excellent condition with sharp edges and very few handling marks.

This pistol appears to have never been issued.
