This is a widely recognised mechanical conductor machine for busses like Southend Transport. This was first made in the 1950s. It was developed for use on buses, and it became widespread throughout the 1960s which is the date of this example.
The Almex A was carried on a strap by conductors or it could be mounted on the cab door for the driver. It was operated by a handle to dispense printed tickets.
