This Wedgwood Kangaroo figurine is from the series of animal sculptures done for Wedgwood by John Skeaping in the early 1930s.
He based it on a kangaroo in the London Zoo and it has some crazing, as expected for an early example.
Width: 23cm
Skeaping was keen to adapt his work to suit the mass-production requirements of the ceramic industry. Monochrome and moulded figure groups were economic to produce and popular and Skeaping’s figures continued in production well into the 1950s.
